Here's the confession: we didn't stop because the story got boring, we stopped because we fell behind, and behind felt like failure. His compassions are new every morning, not new every January.

Lamentations is a book of honest grief, written after Jerusalem's fall, sitting in real loss rather than rushing past it. Right in the middle of it, though, comes one of the Bible's clearest statements of God's faithfulness, which is what makes it land so hard: hope spoken from inside the wreckage, not from a safe distance.
Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. God's mercy does not run out or get rationed based on how well we kept up. Genesis 4 February applies it to a stalled Bible reading plan: the bookmark hasn't moved in six weeks, but grace was never on a January-only schedule.
